- Nate Whitson -
"The prudent sees danger and hides himself, but the simple go on and suffer for it." - Proverbs 22:3
The language of the Bible is often softer than I'd say it to myself.
The second half of that verse, for example, sounds like this to me in my head:
"...but the idiot goes on and does it anyway (even though he CLEARLY knows he shouldn't!)and he suffers for it (like he should!) because he's a big dumb animal."
Sadly, I've lived out this verse more times than I can count.
I'm the idiot!
Like the time that...
- I dated that girl that I knew wasn't right for me and everyone said so too but I did it anyway
- I swore I wouldn't drink in college and I'd live fully for Jesus and be an amazing example of strength and courage to the lost and fellow believers - and then (week 1 the school year) found myself wasted and dancing on top of some speakers at a frat party
- I bought that car I couldn't afford because I convinced myself I "needed it" and it was "such a great deal!"
- I looked at porn (again and again) because "at least I wasn't having 'real sex' like those pagans over there'!"
Ugh.
Maybe you've got some stories too.
Over and over again, we tend to ignore the stop sign and - like an idiot or simpleton - blow right through it and suffer for it.

Maybe we ought to slow down and reflect more on why God says that pursuing wisdom is the wisest thing you can do and the best way to live your life.
When you blow through a stop sign, nothing good comes from it.
But it's not like we don't know that, right?
It's just that we think we'll be the exception.
Or, maybe it's because God hasn't given us our consequences yet, and we think we'll get away with it again.
Don't be fooled, my friend.
God cannot be mocked and life will always catch up with you. Whatever you sow into your life is exactly what you're going to reap.
The bottom line:
See the stop sign ahead? Stop. Don't keep going. Go another way. Do whatever it takes, or suffer for it.
Don't be an idiot.

P.S.
Why is it that so many of us have to suffer over and over again before we learn our lesson?
If we followed God's path of life, we wouldn't have to.
His message to us today: Don't be an idiot. See trouble ahead and avoid it or go another way.
It's not that hard!
P.S.S.
