A few newsletters ago I shared a story with you about the road rage incident I had on the highway. If you missed it, here was my conclusion:
I'm a hot mess, and I need help when it comes to getting angry so quickly!
That incident really got me thinking.
Why am I that way?
What's going on inside of me that causes me to react the way that I do?
Maybe you've wondered that too.
If so, here's a few possible reasons that I found that you may want to consider, too:
- Hurt: past hurts in life (even as far back as when we were young boys) can settle in our hearts, and yet we can be totally unaware of it. We've just been responding to feeling hurt for so long that we get angry and don't even know why.
- Frustration: anger is a secondary emotion, and it flows out of something else. In this case, the real reason we're emotional is because we're frustrated (usually at not getting our way - although it could be 1,000 different reasons!). What do we feel when we're frustrated? Anger.
- Fear: for many men, the real cause of anger is fear. We're afraid of getting hurt again, afraid of going through something in the future, or just fearful of fear itself (we don't like how it feels to be afraid). What we see manifested is anger but what's behind it is often just fear.

What would you say triggers you the most?
It's important that you don't stay stuck in anger any longer than you must. As the Scriptures warn us in Proverbs 29:22:
"An angry person starts fights; a hot-tempered person commits all kinds of sin."
I don't know about you, but I've seen this be true in my life in so many ways over the years. Why? Mostly because I was unaware of the REAL PROBLEM that was lurking below the surface.
Hurt. Frustration. Fear.
When you find the true source of your pain, you can start finding real solutions and lasting victory.
I'd love to know: Which of the 3 triggers mentioned here tend to be the real source of pain for you? Hurt. Frustration. Or Fear? Email me and let me know your story. 📧 [email protected].
Identify it.
Deal with it.
Get unstuck.

P.S.
A lof of men deal with anger issues but very few actually know why.
There's more going on below the surface (in what the Bible calls 'the heart'). We must learn to identify what's causing us to respond in anger if we hope to find healing and grow as men.
What would you say is the root issue that causes you to get angry? Reply to this email and let me know. I'd love to hear!
