Question of the Week:
"Am I showing my kids what it looks like to follow Jesus in the real world?"
3 Actions or Ideas:
- Pray Out Loud ā Take a few moments this week to pray out loud with your kids, even if itās just a short prayer at bedtime or before you eat a meal together. Let them see - and maybe more importantly - HEAR your heart for God. Show them that talking to Him is part of everyday life. I'm a little shocked, actually, that we don't see more people praying out loud in public when they're at restaurants. Aren't you? Let's make that normal.
- Be Honest About Struggles ā Share a story or a struggle youāve faced and talk to them about how your faith in Jesus helped (or is helping) you work through it. Your stories will encourage them to do the same when life gets hard for them. And, as we know, it will!
- Make Church Real ā Bring up something you learned at church this week, even if it's just in a casual, carefree conversation. It could be as simple as mentioning something from the sermon that stood out to you or a Bible verse that hit home. Doing this lets them know that you're actively engaged at church and growing still too.
This worldās got enough examples of what NOT to be. Our kids (and grandkids) need to see real men who are strong in character but humble in heart. They need to see us live out our faith with integrity and sincerity.
Our kids are watching more than we realize. They pick up on our attitudes, the things we prioritize, and the way we handle every situation we're in.
Hereās the thing: if we want our kids to know what it means to follow Jesus, we have to show themānot just in what we say but, more importantly, in the way that we live. They know if we're frauds and if this is real to us or not.
This isnāt about having it all figured out and worrying about if we do it perfectly or not. Itās about letting them see you love Jesus for real and making your faith something they can see and feel in your home.
So, letās be intentional this week. Letās show our kids that following Jesus is real, itās worth it, and it makes life better for everyone when we do!
