Better Man Newsletter
A weekly newsletter for Christian men
that's actually worth reading!

Question of the Week:
"How can I help my family to be more thankful this Thanksgiving?"
3 Actions or Ideas:
-
Start a Gratitude Journal as a Family: You've probably heard of doing a gratitude journal for yourself, but this time, I want you to grab a notebook or start a digital note on your phone or computer and do it as a family. Ask each family member to share something they’re thankful for this year, and then keep track of answers each day leading through New Year. Read through these again together on New Year's Day, and thank God for His blessings in your family's life together.
-
Thankful at the Table: Before the Thanksgiving meal, share one Scripture about gratitude (i.e., 1 Thessalonians 5:18: "Give thanks in all circumstances; for this is God's will for you in Christ Jesus."). Ask each person to share one thing they’re grateful for and then pray a prayer of thanksgiving to God for what He's done for you and your family this year. Be sure to give thanks even for those hard things you've had to deal with and show them how to give thanks in "all" things.
-
Serve Others as a Family: Take time this week to figure out a way that you and your family can bless someone in need. Maybe you can serve at a local food pantry, make and deliver a meal and a homemade card to a neighbor, or write thank-you notes to people who have impacted your family and mail them out. Brainstorm ways to serve and then talk about how Jesus was right when He said that you're more blessed when you give than when you receive.
Why It Matters
Thankfulness is a choice you make, not just a feeling you feel. As Christian men, it’s our job to model what that looks like in our homes—not just on Thanksgiving, obviously, but throughout the year, too. When we intentionally focus on God’s goodness - no matter what we've been through, we remind our families that gratitude is required in both the good times and the bad. Gratitude to God changes us and helps us see more clearly that in all things, He's worthy of our praise and thanksgiving.
This Thanksgiving, you have an opportunity to lead your family spiritually by cultivating this idea with them. Read this verse them -->Colossians 3:17 which reminds us, "And whatever you do, whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him."
The world pushes us to chase after more—more success, more money, more stuff. But when we slow down and reflect on God’s blessings, we teach our families (and ourselves!) that true contentment and real joy come from Christ and Him alone.
So how will you use this Thanksgiving to turn your family’s hearts toward God? Take one or more of these small steps, and make this a full season of true THANKSGIVING!
