Break Bad Habits
Build Better Ones
Become Better Men

- Nate Whitson -
Let's say you want to change a bad habit in your life. How do you do it?
Maybe you want to stop biting your fingernails (this is one of my childhood nemesis! Or, is it nemesisis? 🤷🏻♂️)
Or, stop procrastinating doing the hard, right things you know you need to do.
Or, cursing at work.
Or, eating junk food at night when you're watching tv.
Or, hitting the snooze button when you wake up in the morning.
Whatever it is, you've created some habits that you may not like and you know you need to change.
The question is always: how? How do I create new, better habits?
There is a lot to be said about this, but here's just one idea for you to consider today.
Start by making small changes to your environment.
For example, maybe these small changes would help get you started on the right path.
- Leave your fingernail clippers on the end tables in your living room as a reminder to use them instead of your teeth.
- Set reminders on your phone with messages like, "Do the hard, right things right now!" to keep you from putting them off.
- Put a sticky note in your truck or in your lunch that says, "Watch your mouth!" to help you remember to stop cursing and misrepresenting Christ in front of unbelievers.
- On your drive home, replace sports talk or regular music with Christian music, my podcast, or something more uplifting and Christ-centered.
- Get rid of all of the junk food from your pantry and replace it with healthier options.
Whatever it is, my point to you is this:
Small changes can lead to big changes in your habits and in your life!

Why is this so important?
Because your willpower weakens throughout the day.
It's not unlimited.
That's why you want to have as many healthy habits as you can. Because habits are done on autopilot and don't require you to use as much mental energy to get them done.
It takes some effort and intentionality in the early stages to change and create new habits, but in the end, it makes your life so much easier and better when you do (assuming you create the right ones!).
So, determine just one area of your life that you know you need to work on or improve today.
What habit would be most helpful?
Then, brainstorm some ideas or copy and paste this question into Google or Grok: What small changes could I make that would help me create a new habit of ____________ (fill in the blank with the habit you want to create)?
Want to be a better husband, father, or follower of Jesus?
Start small. Live big. Create new, better habits! (Check this out if you're not sure where to start or want more direction.)

P.S.
How might your environment be impacting your life?
That's a question that I often think of and wonder about.
If you want to live a bigger, better life, then I'd suggest thinking on this, too (or checking out this program I created that might help).
Creating healthy, strong habits may be the ONE thing you need to focus on the most today.
The best way to do that? Start small and tweak your environment.
