"Go big - or go home!"
Have you ever heard someone say that and you felt the sudden jolt of inspiration to change your life and you decide to act on that advice and do something about it?
It happens all the time.
You're fat and out of shape and you hear some skinny, in-shape dude say that on his Instagram page and sudently you don't want to be a wuss forever. So you respond to his challenge and decide to start training for a marathon right away or you sign up for CrossFit.
Or, maybe you know that your marriage is faltering and you hear this piece of advice and decide that it's time to go big in your marriage. So, you book a lover's cruise for just the two of you with money you don't have and can't afford, you decide to send her flowers once a week to prove your love, and you make weekly date nights a priority and swear you'll never miss another one - ever!
For so many of us, the go big or go home mantra has jolted us back to life.
However, in time - it rarely works to create the long-term change we were hoping for.
Have you ever experienced that or found that to be true? I know I certainly have!
So, what CAN we do if going big isn't the way?
My suggestion is to Start Super Small instead.
Let me give an example that may help you think of ways to start super small that may lead to the results that go big or go home hoped to get you to.
Let's say that you (like me) suck at flossing your teeth.
Truth be told: if you're like me then you NEVER floss your teeth. (Don't judge me! I'm just a man like you.)

Now, let's say that you go to the dentist and he looks at you like you're an abject failure for this and you determine that it's time to make a change. What can you do?
If you follow my rule of Start Super Small, you do this:
- Set your floss out on the counter at night.
- When you brush your teeth after breakfast, grab the floss.
- Do just ONE tooth. That's it! (extra credit if you decide to do more)
Now, you're super smart - so you probably think that flossing just one tooth won't accomplish much and that it's a waste of time.
But, you'd be wrong (and not as smart you think) if you think that's true.
The power of Start Super Small is that it creates momentum and gets you on the path to long-term change.
That's the key!
For far too many of us, we fail at go big or go home and start to think that change isn't possible. So, instead of doing something...we opt out and do nothing.
This is far worse than doing something super small.
So, here's what I suggest you do with this today:
Pick a behavior or habit you'd like to embrace and wish were a part of your life.
Then, Start Super Small: what is the smallest behavior change you can make that would eventually lead to long-term change?
Figure that out and try it for just one week. See how it goes and let me know. Use this to help you walk through the steps one by one.
Super small changes lead to really BIG results (not the other way around).
