- Nate Whitson -
Later is a lie.
I was talking to a friend the other day who was asking about how to find the motivation to do what he knows he should do.
We talked about what his priorities were.
What his goals were.
What his "why" was.
All of those answers were great. No issues with any of them.
But when it came to doing what he knew to do, there was a problem. He would always put off what he knew to do and push it back to "later".
- Later today I'll try to do that.
- Later on I'll get that to that.
- Later is better because I'm just so busy right now.
Maybe you can relate.
The point of this newsletter isn't hard to figure out, is it?
Later is a lie.
It's a lie because you know deep down that later never seems to show up, does it? If it did, you wouldn't be feeling so guilty about not doing what you know you should do.
But here you are today bogged down and feeling stuck because you've placed your stated priorities on the back burner of "later".

So, what's the answer to getting unstuck and finding motivation?
Movement.
It's about living by the principle of DISCIPLINE.
Here's how we state this in our Fight Club: "I am a man of DISCIPLINE. I do the hard right things over the easy wrong things every time."
What my friend and I (and maybe you, too) really need in our lives is more discipline.
Not motivation.
Discipline is about moving and acting on the things that you say are important.
Where do things go wrong?
Feelings.
When feelings lead the way discipline goes out the door!
So, if you're being led by your feelings and you're feeling the tension of not doing what you know to do and you really want to change - then do this:
Move.
Do something.
Act on what you know is right.
Feelings aren't in charge of you. You're a man of DISCIPLINE!

P.S.
Do you struggle to do the things you know you should do?
We all do at times.
The key is to do the things you know to do - even when (and especially when!) you don't feel like it.
If you want to change and grow, discipline is the key. You don't need to know more. You just need to do more!
