Break Bad Habits

Become Better Men

- Nate Whitson -
When we're feeling stuck in life the emphasis tends to be focused on what we need to start doing.
But for me, it wasn’t so much about what I started doing as it was about what I needed to STOP doing.
This seems kind of backward at first, but it was exactly what I needed in those days and it may be what you need to hear today, too.
If you're lacking motivation to get moving or you feel "blah" and bored and lethargic, etc - then yes, start reading your bible.
Start exercising.
Start doing the things you know you need to do.
These are all important steps to help you get unstuck.
But for many of us, we also need to stop doing the things that are limiting us and keeping us from being the husbands, fathers, and followers of Jesus that we're meant (and need) to be.
Here are just a few for you to consider that I needed to stop doing too:

Stop blaming everyone else.
Own your decisions. Take responsibility for your life.
You got yourself here, now it's time to get yourself out.
Stop feeding yourself lies.
That voice telling you that you're too far gone? That it's too late to change? That you don't have what it takes?
That's not from God.
Stop excusing your laziness.
Discipline starts in the mind long before it's lived out!
"I'm just not built like that. I wasn't born that way." Stop it! These excuses are lame and not true.
Stop believing you're the exception.
God's truth applies to you, too. You're not the one guy that God's grace can't reach.
You can change and win again if you want to. (This course can help.)
Stop being driven by shame.
Shame isolates, but conviction and confession restores.
Give it to God and get moving forward.
Stop comparing yourself to other men.
God isn’t asking you to be them—He’s calling you to be faithful one day at a time.
Comparison is a thief. Don't let it keep robbing you of what God has for you.
Stop thinking your past defines your future.
In Christ, the past is forgiven.
Time to move forward.
Stop stuffing your emotions.
You can’t fix what you won’t face.
Learn and study emotions and the role they play in your life. This may be the most important thing God gave me in my recovery.
Stop overthinking and start obeying.
Delayed obedience is disobedience.
Sometimes, the best way to get started and get unstuck is by learning what you need to STOP doing first.

P.S.
What do you find more difficult: starting or stopping these things mentioned above?
If you're feeling stuck in life, then starting and creating positive movement is critical.
But so is stopping certain things that are getting in the way of progress.
Both are key steps for the man who wants to Get In The Fight and be a better man.
