- Nate Whitson -
Are there any relationships in your life that are just NOT working?
Maybe it's your wife.
Or kids.
Or a co-worker or boss.
Whoever it is, here's what I want you to ask yourself:
What's going on here, and how can I make it better?
I was listening to one of my favorite people, Jocko Willink, on Simon Sinek's podcast and he was talking about this very issue.
Here's a few things he shared that I think can help you think about how to improve any relationship that needs a little work.

If life is built on your ability to create good relationships, then we must, first, understand what the key components of a good relationship look like.
Jocko said it's these 5 things:
- Trust.
- Listen.
- Respect.
- Influence.
- Care.
Consider each one carefully as you think of the person in your life today that you need to repair or strengthen your relationship with.
Do they not trust you? Why - and how you can rebuild that with them?
Do you need to stop giving so much advice and be a better listener?
Do you show disrespect verbally or non-verbally and it's causing a rift?
Do you allow them to influence you or are you so 'my way or the highway' that it's a one-way street with you?
Do they genuinely and deeply believe that you care about them?
Here's the thing: the obstacle that is most likely to derail any relationship is ego.
To foster any type of great relationship you must keep your ego in check.
This is why Jesus said, "The greatest among you will be your servant."
Want to build a better relationship?
Check your ego and humble yourself and watch what God does.

P.S.
Is there a relationship in your life today that needs to be strengthened or rebuilt?
If so, today's conversation is going to be so helpful, I think!
The key is to start with you and to check your ego at the door.
Don't let your ego ruin a relationship that God wants you to rebuild.
