My wife is crazy!
Well, she's really not. But it can certainly feel that way sometimes.
We've all been there before.
She says something stupid.
You say something stupider.
She looks at you like you're an idiot.
You tell her she is one.
Round-and-round it goes!
This common scenario is something all married couples find themselves in from time to time and it's important to know how to handle it the next time it does.
Former pastor and current author and counselor, Emerson Eggerichs, calls this The Crazy Cycle.
Here's how this works.

One of you starts spinning the cycle with something unloving or something that feels disrespectful.
When this painful arrow jabs you, you respond in a similarly unloving or disrespectful way and on and on it goes.
Until this happens, that is:
The most mature moves first!
When you realize that you're spinning out of control on The Crazy Cycle it's important to get off of it as soon as possible.
It's like the kids that ride on the Merry Go Round at the playground. Once you get it spinning it's hard to make it stop and when you do, you're likely going to barf!
It's anything but "merry".

The problem is that both sides are waiting for the other person to make the first move.
Instead, as the man, may you be the first to make that move. May you be the most mature.
This is key to being the man and husband that God meant for you to be.
We all find ourselves stuck on The Crazy Cycle from time to time. But you don't have to ride that ride any longer than you choose to.
Stop the spinning as soon as possible by being the more mature one and make the first move to apologize, humble yourself, and get off that ride!

P.S.
When's the last time you found yourself stuck on The Crazy Cycle?
We've all been on that ride and it always leaves you feeling the same way: head spinning and sick to your stomach!
The good news is that you don't have to ride on that salad spinner any longer than you want to! How do you stop it?
Be the most mature and make the first move!
