~ Helping men live intentional lives ~
When's the last time you thought about your own funeral or death?
If it's been a minute, maybe right now is a good time to do that.
Here's what King Solomon (the wisest man to ever live) said about it in Ecclesiastes 7:1-4:
A good reputation is more valuable than costly perfume.
And the day you die is better than the day you are born.
2 Better to spend your time at funerals than at parties.
After all, everyone dies—
so the living should take this to heart.
3 Sorrow is better than laughter,
for sadness has a refining influence on us.
4 A wise person thinks a lot about death,
while a fool thinks only about having a good time.
I don't know about you, but I HATE feeling sad, and I have never once thought, "You know what we should do this weekend? Let's spend some time at a funeral or two!"
And yet, sounds to me like Solomon thinks this is the right way to live. More than that, he says that the wisest among us think about death a lot.
He's right.
Death is coming for us all, and it would behoove us to spend some time thinking more about it.

But that's not what we like doing, is it?
- We'd rather party.
- Think about the here and now.
- Spend our time pursuing pleasure.
- Make the most of our short lives by living it up the best that we can.
So, just for a moment, do me a favor. No...scratch that...do yourself a favor and think about your own funeral and death for a minute.
Consider these questions while you do. Starting with this one:
What do you hope those closest to you would say about you when you're gone?
- He was a good guy, but I don't feel like I really knew him all that well.
- He was a hard worker, and building a big business was really important to him.
- I know he loved me, but he struggled to show it.
Most importantly, what do you think God would say about you?
When it's all said and done and your time is through, what will your life have amounted to?
Will you have lived a meaningful, beautiful life for Christ and others - or will your funeral be filled with stories of something less?
Think about it.
Spend some time wrestling with these questions today.
Then, consider what C.T. Studd once said and let it impact you heavily:
"Only one life, 'twill soon be past.
Only what's done for Christ will last."
Get in the fight for a meaningful life, my friend.
You only get one shot at this. Make it count for Christ!

P.S.
Do you know when most men start thinking about death?
When it's too late.
Don't let that be you!
Take some time today to think carefully about your life and what matters most. Make it count for Christ and respond to whatever it is that God speaks to you.
After all...everyone dies - but not everyone truly lives!
