For Christian Men
~ Helping men live intentional lives ~
In the last newsletter that I sent you, I mentioned this really important word that the Bible says is key to living the life God has for you to live. That word is this:
FLEE!
To run AWAY from temptation and trouble is absolutely necessary for Christian men who want to be better husbands, fathers, and followers of Jesus.
But so is this:
PURSUE!
What we run TO is just as (or maybe more) important.
But before I tell you some ideas that may be worth pursuing, let me ask you this:
What are you pursuing or running toward the most - or with the most passion and energy - today?
More money?
A better retirement plan?
A new truck?
A bigger house or vacation home?
A six-pack of abs?
If you're not sure, here's a simple way of considering what it might be:
Look at where you spend your time and consider all the ways you spend your money.
Those two things are always very telling about what really matters most to men.
So, with all of that as a backdrop, let me share what Scriptures say, and then I want you to compare Timothy's list with your own.
1 Timothy 6:11 says:
"Pursue righteousness, godliness, faith, love, steadfastness, (and) gentleness."
Now, revisit your list.
How closely does it align with what Timothy says here?

My guess is that our lists and pursuits are not usually the same as what God might have in mind for us.
The Kingdom of God is so very different than the kingdoms we build for ourselves. And that's probably because of what we pursue.
The goal, then, for today is to get us to consider what we're pursuing and then to help us align our lives with God's list more than our own.
Consider carefully what it would look like and what it might produce in your life if you were to pursue...
- Doing what's right in every situation.
- Living as a godly man as a lifestyle.
- Trusting that God's way is better than your way.
- Doing everything in love.
- Staying the course and staying in the fight for Christ and not being wishy-washy or inconsistent.
- Living a life of gentleness, peace, and a calm mind.
My hope is that we learn to PURSUE and run toward these things as we also learn to flee those things that distract us or deter us from our calling as men.
This is what it means to fight the good fight!

One of the biggest reasons men stay stuck isn’t because they won’t flee sin — it’s because they don’t know what to pursue instead.
