- Nate Whitson -
How you see failure determines how quickly you can change.
This is so key for you to understand if you're serious about wanting to change any area of your life.
Think of the process of change like this image below.

It looks like a smiley-face, I know. But the journey to change is anything but all smiles.
Yet, at the beginning of any change there is HOPE.
That's the starting point for change on the left side of the image.
Without it, you'd never get moving!
When you determine that it's time to change, you begin with hope and you feel good about the pain you're about to suffer. You know it'll be worth it!
You start the new diet.
You hit the gym for the first time in months.
You read your Bible every morning without fail.
Change feels good!
But, sadly, we all know this journey doesn't stay that way for long. In fact, the transition from hope and feeling good usually doesn't last long at all!
Before you know it, you move into the middle of the U-shaped curve journey called INSIGHT.
At least, that's what I'm suggesting you call it. For many men, here's what they usually call it, instead:
FAILURE!
This is the whole point of today's quick conversation with you: the perspective shift from seeing setbacks and failing as either INSIGHT or FAILURE is the difference between winning and losing.
It can't be overstated how important this distinction and perspective shift is.
For too many of us, this is where we get stuck and stay stuck.
Things start to get hard and change goes from hopeful to hopeless in a hurry. When this happens, our energy drops, our attitudes shift, and things start to unravel.
For many, quitting altogether happens here.
When we do this, we miss out on the end of the U-shaped journey curve, which is CONFIDENCE (the right side of the smiley-face image).
We never experience what it's like to live the life Christ meant for us to live in that area of our lives because we forfeited the game right in the middle.
What I hope this does for you today is that it keeps you in the fight.
The best way I know to do that is to recognize that failure is a part of winning.
Don't give up in the middle of the fight. Keep going!
See failure and setbacks as part of the process and just keep fighting.
Confidence is coming if you just don't quit.

P.S.
How do you tend to see setbacks and failures?
Do you get easily frustrated and give up, or do you push through them and see them as helpful for your learning?
Recognizing how change happens and having the right mindset and perspective can change everything for you.
I hope it does!
