- Nate Whitson -
Do you ever feel a little overwhelmed by all of the great advice and ideas that are out there?
We're not lacking when it comes to great ideas to grow as Christian men:
- Wake up early and read God's Word
- Exercise and focus on your health
- Read great books and grow your mind
- Love your wife and pray with her every day
All of these are awesome and spot on ideas that we ought to embrace.
Yet, sometimes it feels like too much to me.
Like there's not enough time in the day to do everything I know I ought to do. Which, at the end of the day, sometimes leaves me feeling like I've failed because I couldn't keep up with the high demands of manhood.
Maybe you've felt this same way, too.

If so, I think this one idea may be super helpful to you. I read about it in a book called, Essentialism, by Greg McKeown. (great read btw!) In it, Greg told a story of a highly successful soccer coach whose mantra was W.I.N.
WIN = What's.Important.Now?
This repeated phrase helped focus his team on what was essential in the moment-by-moment plays of the game but also in the preparation and practice time before it.
This idea is super powerful if you're a man who wants to get better every day at winning at life and, in particular, winning at the things that matter most.
When complexity sets in - inaction always follows.
Our brains were made by God in such a way that we struggle to focus when we have too many options in front of us. It's like my wife at a Cheesecake Factory trying to find something to eat from a menu with 32 pages of options! Her brain freezes and she can't make a decision.
The same is true for all of us.
What we need is a simple way of making decisions throughout the day. For me, the framework of W.I.N. is the way to win your day!
When you wake up first thing in the morning, ask yourself: What's Important Now? Then do that thing.
When you're at work, do the same: What's Important Now?
When you get back home after a long day at work but you know you need to come in and serve your family, ask: What's Important Now?
When you're torn between several good decisions, ask yourself: What's Important Now?
There will always be lots of options. But narrowing the focus to determine what the most important thing is that's right in front of you now will help you do more of the things you know you're supposed to do.

Want to win today? Just ask What's Important Now?

P.S.
Not everything you do is of equal importance.
Sometimes we act like everything is equal but it's really not. For example, getting into God's Word today versus changing a light bulb that's been out for a week. One is critical and one is not.
So, if you want to be the man God meant for you to be, you've got to learn to focus on what matters most (which I help men do in this on-demand video course) and what we learn from today's lesson of W.I.N.
Print out the letters like I did and put in your Bible or on your fridge (I did both!) - then W.I.N. the day!
