I was leading a group of about 20 men in a study about sex and addiction.
The ages ranged from men in their 20's to men in their late 70's.
I asked this question and was shocked at the response:
"How many of you had a parent who had a healthy, helpful conversation with you about sex when you were growing up?"
Answer: Not. A. Single. One!!
Does that surprise you? Probably not.
Why?
Because it's unlikely that you did either!
Now, let's shift the conversation to you if you're a dad today.
What is your plan to do it better or differently for your kids?
For most of us dads, we'd rather smash our thumb with a hammer or be forced to watch Hallmark movies all day than to have to talk to our kids about sex.
Yet, (you won't be shocked at what I'm about to tell you) - it's YOUR JOB!
We, men, are to be the leaders, the providers, and the protectors of our homes. That means that we've got to be more engaged in this conversation with our kids.
Why? The devil hates your kids.
He wants nothing more than to have you sit this one out and simply "hope they figure it out and don't get hurt". Well, guess what? That has never worked and it's not going to work for your beautiful children or grandchildren either.
The world has hijacked God's plan for sex and marriage and the Church has been silent on this topic for far too long. This is a terrible recipe for exactly what we're seeing unfold around us.
As a dad of 4 daughters (who are all beautiful like their mama!), this worries me every day. But, rather than just "hope and pray" - I decided to act on it and try to make it easier for me and other dads to talk about sex with their teenage children.
In fact, that's what I titled the book: "Let's Talk About SEX!". It's a book with 20 questions that Christian teenagers wish they knew answers to - but don't know how to ask you. If you've got kids or grandkids, you should check it out and see if it can help.
The goal is to help you learn to talk about these things from a biblical perspective and to help you have a PLAN - not just a hope - for addressing this critical conversation(s).
I know it can be awkward and tough to do, but think about what's at stake if you DON'T.
Your kids were entrusted to you by God to provide and protect them, and this is a big area where you need to engage and lead the way. This book can help.
