Episode Summary

Today, I want to start here: There’s a word I’ve been thinking about lately—and honestly, you may not like it as much as sometimes I don’t like it either. It’s not trendy, it’s not easy, but it is essential: that word is Obey.

Jesus says this: “If you love me, obey my commandments” (John 14:15).

“All who love me will do what I say” (John 14:23).

According to Jesus, love and obedience aren’t separate—they’re inseparable.

Loving Jesus isn’t just about feelings, songs, or words—it’s about action.

Think about marriage: if a husband says “I love you” but ignores his wife’s needs, does she feel loved? Words without action ring hollow. Same with Jesus—our love is proven in obedience.

And here’s the good news: obedience isn’t a burden when it flows from love.

"Loving God means keeping his commandments, and his commandments are not burdensome”* (1 John 5:3, NLT). When you see obedience as a way to love Jesus, it turns from duty to joy. Instead of “I have to,” it becomes “I get to.”

Some men push back:

“Christianity isn’t about behavior—it’s about grace.” True—we don’t earn God’s favor by obeying. But grace doesn’t make obedience optional; it makes it possible.

“Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says” (James 1:22).

Every man lives by a code. If you’re not consciously obeying Jesus, you’re obeying something else—your desires, the culture, or someone else. Real honor, discipline, and strength start with obeying the right King.

Today’s Challenge

  • Identify one area where you’ve been saying you love Jesus but not obeying Him.
  • Change your mindset: start saying “I get to” instead of “I have to.”
  • Invite a brother to hold you accountable and pray for you.

Obeying Jesus is loving Jesus. His commands aren’t burdensome—they’re the path to the life you’ve always wanted.
