Deliberate Disobedience
What if the greatest threat to your faith isn’t something out there… but something quietly happening inside of you? There’s ONE thing that can shipwreck your faith—and it’s not something you hear about very often, but you should.

Episode Summary
There are a lot of things that can derail your faith—trauma, doubt, disappointment, emotional wounds—but Paul warns Timothy about something far more subtle and dangerous. In this episode, we’ll unpack what this hidden threat is, why it’s so spiritually destructive, how it slowly shipwrecks your faith, and what you can do today to get back on course. “Cling to your faith in Christ, and keep your conscience clear. For some people have deliberately violated their consciences; as a result, their faith has been shipwrecked.” — 1 Timothy 1:18–19 (NLT)
My goal with Get In The Fight is to help Christian men fight well—and this one issue might be the biggest fight of all.
Key Takeaway #1: Cling to Your Faith in Christ
Faith can get derailed in many ways: Trauma and pain shake your confidence in God. Unanswered prayers create disillusionment. Emotional wounds create doubt. Lust and compromise destroy intimacy with God and your wife. Culture subtly pulls you away from biblical conviction. 👉 In every one of these moments, Paul’s command still stands: Cling to your faith in Christ.
Key Takeaway #2: The Hidden Threat - Deliberate Disobedience
Life and temptation impact us all. But this isn’t just about falling short—it’s about deliberate choices against conscience. Paul says this is why many men stumble and fall. Common ways men deliberately violate conscience: Justifying known sin — convincing yourself it’s “not that bad.” Ignoring conviction — feeling the Spirit’s nudge but choosing not to act. Making excuses — blaming circumstances to avoid obedience. Living double-minded — pretending in public while indulging in private. Compromising for comfort — choosing what’s easy over what’s right. Refusing repentance — feeling guilt but never turning back to God. Deliberate disobedience is a faith wrecker. You can’t genuinely pursue Christ while deliberately ignoring your conscience and the Holy Spirit.
Key Takeaway #3: The Cost of Ignoring Conviction
When you violate your conscience, you risk: Damaging your marriage and fatherhood through withdrawal and apathy. Giving up on your faith altogether. Living in pain and regret from unconfessed sin. Losing your witness and influence for Christ. Prayers that go unanswered. Losing eternal rewards when God judges your stewardship.
So pause and ask:
- Are you knowingly violating your conscience?
- Is there a sin you’re justifying or covering up?
- Is there something you’re doing that you know is wrong?
👉 Be honest—and be done with it. Repentance isn’t about guilt; it’s about restoration and returning to God.
Action Step
Don’t let deliberate disobedience derail your faith. Get right with God today. Align your belief with your behavior. Obedience will keep you steady when everything else feels shaky.
Get rid of any deliberate disobedience. Cling to Jesus. Be a man of honor, discipline, strength, and joy—and Get In The Fight! Call to Action
